Hearing
Prosecution evidence began before Colombo High Court Judge Rashmi Singappuli. First witness Gayan Vinodaka testified that the driver at the scene identified himself as Patali Champika. Defence counsel Sarath Jayamanne PC objected to the trial proceeding because the driver (a co-accused) had pleaded guilty in a related Magistrate's Court case; Deputy Solicitor General Abeywickrama said that did not bar the High Court trial. The hearing was adjourned.
