Terms of use

By using nadu.lk you agree to these terms. Please read them alongside our privacy notice.
1. What nadu.lk is
nadu.lk is an independent, unofficial public-record project. It compiles publicly available information about legal proceedings involving Sri Lankan politicians — investigations, arrests, court cases, outcomes and what happens next — and collects headlines from Sri Lankan and international news outlets. It is not affiliated with any court, government body, political party or news publisher.
2. Information only, not legal advice
Everything on nadu.lk is general information. It is not legal advice and should not be relied on as a substitute for the official court record or for advice from a qualified lawyer. Cases move quickly, and a record may not yet reflect the latest hearing or order. Check the cited sources, and the official record, before relying on any detail.
3. How we describe legal status
Arrest, remand, bail, charge, indictment, trial, conviction, sentence, appeal, acquittal, dismissal and pardon are different legal stages, and we use each word only for the stage it describes. In particular:
- An allegation, investigation or arrest does not establish guilt.
- Remand is custody while a case proceeds; it is not a sentence.
- Bail means a person has been released while their case continues, not that the case is over.
- An indictment is a formal charge to be tried, not a finding of guilt.
- A conviction may be under appeal, and a custodial sentence does not by itself mean a person is currently in prison.
Everyone is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a court.
4. The news section and AI summaries
The news section shows headlines and short excerpts that link to the original articles. The original publishers own their content; we do not republish full articles, and you should read the original for the full story.
Some summaries and write-ups on nadu.lk are generated with AI from those headlines and excerpts. AI can get things wrong — misread a detail, miss context or overstate a point. Where an AI-generated summary and the original report differ, the original report is the authority.
5. Outlet ratings
The ratings on news sources are nadu.lk's opinion, formed by applying our published method to the evidence listed there. They are not statements of fact about any outlet. Publishers and readers can ask for a rating to be reviewed through the corrections form; please point to the evidence you think we have missed or misread.
6. Corrections and takedown requests
If you believe something on nadu.lk is inaccurate, out of date, infringes your rights or should be removed, tell us through the corrections form. A source or screenshot helps us act quickly.
- We aim to review and respond to requests within 7 days.
- We aim to act on urgent legal or safety issues — for example, a court order, a risk to someone's safety, or the identification of a person the law protects — within 24 hours. Please mark these as urgent.
We correct errors openly. Dated Nadu Updates are a record of what was reported at the time; when a case later changes, we update the current record rather than rewriting history, and add a correction note where an Update itself was wrong.
7. Copyright

Third-party source material — news reporting, court documents and government publications — remains the property of its respective publishers and public bodies. nadu.lk links to it for verification and does not claim ownership of it.
8. Acceptable use
When using nadu.lk, please don't:
- scrape, crawl or bulk-download the site beyond what our robots.txt allows, or place an unreasonable load on it;
- use the corrections form to send spam, abuse, threats, malware or material you have no right to share, or to submit knowingly false information;
- try to break, probe or bypass the site's security or rate limits;
- present nadu.lk content in a way that misrepresents what it says, or as if it came from someone else.
9. Limitation of liability
We work hard to keep nadu.lk accurate and sourced, but it is provided “as is”, without any warranty that it is complete, current or error-free, and the site may sometimes be unavailable. To the fullest extent the law allows, nadu.lk is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site or the third-party sites it links to. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.
10. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, and the courts of Colombo have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
