    The Supreme Court, before a five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, concluded its three-day hearing of the appeals by Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Nalin Fernando against their sentences in the carrom board procurement case.     On 29 May 2025 the Colombo High Court found former Sathosa chairman and former trade minister Nalin Fernando guilty in the carrom board case and sentenced him to 25 years' rigorous imprisonment. The prosecution, brought by the Bribery Commission, concerned the purchase through Sathosa of 14,000 carrom boards and 11,000 draught boards for distribution to sports clubs ahead of the 2015 presidential election.
