Regarding Duminda Dissanayake

What happened?

On 10 September 2026, Duminda Dissanayake was indicted before the Colombo High Court, together with one of two women earlier arrested in the matter, over a gold-plated T-56 assault rifle found at a Colombo apartment complex in May 2025 that a woman told investigators had been sent to her for safekeeping by Dissanayake. He was granted bail the same day.

What changed?

Dissanayake was arrested in May 2025 and discharged two months later for lack of evidence. The Attorney General's Department reopened the case in mid-2026 after fresh statements from a co-suspect, and he has now been formally indicted - moving the case from a closed inquiry back into active prosecution. An indictment is a formal charge, not a conviction.
