Court forfeits Rs. 40 million bail bonds of Airbus co-suspect who is overseas

Court Order30 September 2026

Regarding Namal Rajapaksa

What happened?

The court forfeited two Rs. 20 million bonds furnished by Aravinda de Silva and his wife as sureties for Wijenayake, who travelled overseas after being bailed. Rs. 20 million was ordered paid immediately, with the balance due on 14 October (Ada Derana, Newswire) or 17 October (NewsFirst). Reports say her warrant has been referred to Interpol and that action is being sought against Shamindra Rajapaksa (a Red Notice sought, per Ada Derana; an international warrant, per Newswire).

What changed?

The sureties are not accused of any offence, and neither overseas co-suspect is a tracked politician. No Red Notice, arrest or extradition step is confirmed. Namal Rajapaksa's own custody is unaffected by this order.

What happens next?

14 October 2026: Balance of the forfeited bonds is due in mid-October; sources give 14 or 17 October.
