Prosecution witnesses heard in Rajitha Senaratne's Mutwal/Modara Fisheries Harbour trial

Court Order14 September 2026

Regarding Rajitha Senaratne

What happened?

On 14 September 2026, the Colombo High Court (Judge Mohamed Mihail presiding) recorded evidence from prosecution witnesses in the trial of Rajitha Senaratne and two other defendants, alleging a financial loss to the government from the 2012 lease of the Mutwal (Modara) Fisheries Harbour to a private company. The defence cross-examined the witnesses, and the further hearing was fixed for 17 November 2026.

What changed?

This matter had previously been recorded on Nadu as a historical indictment whose current disposition had not been reverified. It is now confirmed as an active trial at the evidence stage - a separate prosecution from the Kirinda fisheries-harbour matter, in which Senaratne is separately facing charges from the same period as Fisheries Minister. This is a trial-stage procedural development, not a conviction.
