Prosecutors reference Rishad Bathiudeen in Suresh Sallay Easter attacks court proceeding
Regarding Rishad Bathiudeen
What happened?
During proceedings against Maj. Gen. (Retd.) Suresh Sallay and other suspects over the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks, prosecutors referenced Bathiudeen on two occasions: a report dated 11 September 2026 said he was named in the investigation over an allegation that he helped bomber Zahran Hashim travel to India; and on 15 September 2026, Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris told the court that investigators were examining whether political and logistical support had been given to people connected to the attackers, referencing Bathiudeen and a Mannar businessman. Bathiudeen has denied the claims.
What changed?
This is the first Nadu Update recorded for Bathiudeen. He is not named a suspect and no charge has been filed in this proceeding. This is a separate matter from, and does not reopen, his 2021-2022 Prevention of Terrorism Act case, from which he was released in November 2022 after the Attorney General advised there was insufficient evidence.
What happens next?
No confirmed next step yet. No further procedural step involving Bathiudeen has been publicly reported.
