Regarding Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan ("Pillayan")

What happened?

At a 15 September 2026 hearing conducted by video conference, the Batticaloa Magistrate's Court further remanded Chandrakanthan and two co-accused until 29 September 2026, following further CID submissions in the case over the 2008 Batticaloa killings. The court renewed an arrest warrant for a fourth suspect, Mohamed Faiz, reported to be at large in London. The court separately directed prison authorities to report back by 22 September on defence requests concerning Chandrakanthan's prison meals and telephone contact with his mother - an administrative matter, not a change in his remand status.

What changed?

Routine continuation of Chandrakanthan's existing remand in this matter - his custody status is unchanged, and no new charge, conviction, or finding has been made.
