Current status of the SLFP General Secretary civil dispute - interim injunction refused

PROCEEDINGS PENDING

A civil dispute over who holds the General Secretary post of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. Jayasekara, removed from the post by the SLFP leadership in 2023, asked the courts to recognise him as General Secretary and to stop Duminda Dissanayake and Nimal Siripala de Silva from acting as General Secretary and Chairman. The Colombo District Court refused his request; on appeal, the Western Province Civil Appellate High Court also refused the request and the interim injunction on 28 September 2026.

What’s happened

The refusal of interim relief did not finally decide the underlying civil action, which remains pending, with a preliminary hearing fixed for 8 January 2027. This is a civil dispute: no criminal allegation, arrest, charge or custody order is involved.
