Court refuses Dayasiri Jayasekara's bid to be recognised as SLFP General Secretary

Court Order28 September 2026

Regarding Dayasiri Jayasekara

What happened?

On 28 September 2026 the Western Province Civil Appellate High Court rejected Jayasekara's request to be recognised as General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and refused an interim injunction against Duminda Dissanayake and Nimal Siripala de Silva acting as General Secretary and Chairman. The Colombo District Court had earlier refused the same request. The preliminary hearing was fixed for 8 January 2027.

What changed?

Interim relief was refused at both levels, so Dissanayake and de Silva continue in their roles while the underlying civil action proceeds. The order did not finally decide the dispute. This is a civil matter over a party office, not a criminal case, and Parliament currently lists Jayasekara as an SJB MP for Kurunegala.

What happens next?

8 January 2027: Preliminary hearing on 8 January 2027.
