On 6 June 2022 the Colombo High Court (Judge Manjula Tillakaratne) convicted Prasanna Ranatunga on one count, the thirteenth of fifteen, in the case over a Rs. 64 million demand from a businessman. He was sentenced to two years' rigorous imprisonment suspended for five years and fined Rs. 25 million, with a compensation order reported at Rs. 1 million. He withdrew his appeal in the Court of Appeal on 11 September 2025.
