The Bribery Commission filed a case in the Colombo High Court on 25 Feb 2020 alleging that, as Minister of Enterprise Development and Investment Promotion, Bogollagama improperly approved or influenced payments of about Rs. 1.17 million for hotel accommodation and Rs. 414,000 in other costs (about Rs. 1.5 million in total) for a BOI investment exhibition in London, contrary to Treasury guidelines, with several other defendants. He was reportedly living abroad as a diplomat and the court later directed that the trial proceed in his absence. On 7 October 2026 CIABOC arrested him when he arrived to give a statement, acting on an open warrant the Colombo High Court had issued in an ongoing case, and he was produced before Colombo High Court Judge Rashantha Godawela the same day, who remanded him in custody until the conclusion of the trial after hearing the Bribery Commission's submissions. UNDER APPEAL

Gotabaya Rajapaksa

SLPP

Investigations into the 21 Apr 2019 Easter Sunday bombings, which killed over 260 people, intensified in 2026, including the arrest of former State Intelligence Service chief Suresh Sallay. Rajapaksa, who had been Defence Secretary until 2015 and was elected President in November 2019, filed a Court of Appeal writ petition through lawyer Sanath Wijewardene seeking an order preventing his arrest and detention under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in connection with the investigation, naming the IGP, the CID Director and a CID officer as respondents. On 1 Oct 2026 the Court of Appeal rejected the petition without taking it up for hearing, refusing to issue notice or interim protection against arrest. On 9 Oct 2026 Rajapaksa appealed to the Supreme Court against that rejection, asking it to set the order aside and restrain the authorities from arresting him in the investigation. Allegations connecting Rajapaksa to the attacks are contested and unproven; neither the filing of this protective litigation nor its rejection establishes that an arrest is lawful, imminent, or evidentially supported, and the rejection is not an arrest, charge or finding of guilt. Separately, Human Rights Watch reports that on 3 Jun 2026 the Fort Magistrate's Court barred Rajapaksa, Col. Mohamed Ansar and former intelligence officer Premananda Udalagama from foreign travel in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks investigation; a travel ban is not an arrest, charge or finding.

Newswire reports that this case concerns the Treasury bond auction of 31 March 2016 and ten accused including former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake and former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran; it is the same prosecution recorded at ravi-karunanayake-03 (reported there as the 29 March 2016 auction), and the auction date is reported inconsistently. It is not the separate prosecution over the 27 February 2015 auction (23 indictments, alleged loss of Rs. 688 million), whose ten accused, per NewsFirst, do not include Ravi Karunanayake. INVESTIGATION

Wijewickrama Manamperige Piyal Senadheera (Piyal Manamperi)

SLPPFormer Member, Angunakolapelessa Pradeshiya Sabha (Ward 01, Thalawa)

Piyal Manamperi, a former Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) member of the Angunakolapelessa Pradeshiya Sabha, was arrested on 6 September 2025 after police recovered a large stock of chemicals - reported at roughly 50,000 kg - alleged to be linked to crystal methamphetamine ('Ice') production, buried at a property in Thalawa, Middeniya. Police said the land belonged to his brother, Sampath Manamperi, and alleged that both had been involved in concealing the material. Piyal was remanded and his detention was extended repeatedly by the Walasmulla Magistrate's Court through at least 7 January 2026. Laboratory testing connected to the wider investigation was reported to have found chemicals used in methamphetamine production, and in February 2026 police told a court hearing concerning the case that laboratory reports had identified a quantity of crystal methamphetamine itself in material connected to the investigation - a finding reported in connection with the case as a whole, not specifically attributed to Piyal in the sources reviewed. No publicly reported High Court indictment or conviction against Piyal in this case has been located, though some contemporary reporting describes him as remanded 'on charges' concerning possession of the chemicals. His custody status after the January 2026 remand order could not be independently verified.

Supreme Court fundamental-rights/constitutional judgment holding that then-President Maithripala Sirisena acted arbitrarily and beyond his constitutional authority in granting a 2019 presidential pardon to Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, who had been convicted of contempt of court and sentenced to a total of 19 years' imprisonment (to run concurrently over 6 years) for disrupting court proceedings and insulting the judiciary. The Court found the pardon violated constitutional procedures for clemency, the Public Trust Doctrine, natural justice, and the constitutional guarantee of equality, in part because Sirisena relied solely on advice from an Additional Legal Secretary rather than following established protocol. This is a non-criminal constitutional judgment reviewing an official act of the presidency — it is not a criminal case, charge, or conviction against Sirisena personally, and Gnanasara Thero's own underlying conviction is unaffected and remains on the record.

CID investigation concerning firearms and ammunition issued to former Minister Douglas Devananda in 2001. The investigation intensified after one of the pistols originally issued to Devananda was recovered near Weliweriya in 2019 following information obtained during an organised-crime investigation.
